All remaining performances are at capacity. We are taking names for Waiting Lists for each performance (July 17, 18, 19) and in the process of re-confirming all existing reservations, so that we can accommodate as many as possible.

Friday and Saturday at 8 PM, Sunday at 2 PM.

UPDATED: 10:30 PM, July 8.

Tickets are going faster and faster as the end of the run of Nine draws ever closer.

Seats are not available for our performances this Friday or Saturday (June 10 & 11) but we do have someseats available are now sold out on Sunday June 12 as well.

Seats are still available for next week’s performances.

Call the box office at 908-879-7304 sooner rather than later and make your reservations, because once it’s over, you’ve missed it!

I’m overwhelmed!! I had to watch myself on the way home to prevent speeding, I was so wound up! I’ve seen a lot of Chester shows, but at this moment I still can’t bring anything to mind which blew me away as this one did! Congratulations! I’m tempted to come again!

The staging was especially fantastic. The “love” scenes, the inventiveness, the energy of all concerned! Believe it or not, I saw the Antonio Banderas production with Chita Rivera and I don’t even remember it. This was like a brand new show to me. Maybe it’s because of the close central staging, but all I can say is, CONGRATULATIONS to the entire cast and Clifford Parrish, Jeffrey Fiorello, you and Mark Happel.

I LOVE the Chester Theatre Group!

Nine is “Spectacular”

Writing in the Recorder Newspapers (Mt. Olive Chronicle, Randolph Reporter, etc.), Sheila Abrams calls our current production of Maury Yeston and Arthur Kopits’ Nine “Spectacular … [t]his may be the theatrical bargain of the year.”

‘Spectacular’ sounds like an odd word for a production staged in the Black River Playhouse, a charming little jewel box of a theater in the round that is home to the Chester Theatre Group.

However, as they say, if the shoe fits… And in the case of the musical “Nine,” now in production there, it fits like Cinderella’s slipper. This very unusual show, with a score by Maury Yeston and a book by Arthur Kopit, has been staged in a style that can only be called spectacular.

‘Nine’ Opens, June 26

Chester Theatre Group is gearing up for their production of “Nine” which opens on June 26. Telling the story of Guido, an Italian film director, and the women in his life, Nine is set to a score by Maury Yeston and a book by Arthur Kopit. At CTG, the production is guided by the sure hand of Cliff Parrish who is handling both directing and musical direction with assistance from Jeff Fiorello. Mark Happell is serving as producer and designer.

The show will be performed weekends from Friday, June 26 through Sunday, July 19, 2009 with no performance on July 4.

Auditions: Nine

CTG is holding open auditions for Nine, book by Arthur Kopit, adapted from the Italian by Mario Fratti, music by Maury Yeston, to be performed weekends from Friday, June 26 through Sunday, July 19, 2009

No performance on July 4.

The production is being Clifford Parrish is directing as well as providing musical direction; Jeffrey Fiorello is assistant directing and Mark Happell is serving as producer and designer.

Auditions: Sunday, March 8, 3 pm till 5:30 pm.

Tuesday, March 10, 7:30 pm until 9:30 pm

Cast Requirements:

Guido Contini (tenor): a director/movie star who is turning 40.

Young Guido and 3 School Mates: 4 young boys, unchanged voices.

20 women who play age 20 and up. All vocal ranges, with choral experience preferred.

Louisa Contini, his wife (mezzo/belt)

Carla, his sexy mistress (extreme range: belt to legit soprano)

Claudia, his movie star muse (soprano, with low extension)

Guido’s mother, older (soprano)

Liliane LaFleur, his French producer (mezzo/belt)

Stephanie Necrophorus, critic (belt)

Our Lady of the Spa (mezzo)

Mama Maddelena (mezzo, comic)

Sarraghina, a local whore (mezzo/belt)

Lina Darling, Liliane’s assistant

Up to 11 female ensemble members, sopranos and altos, are featured in various numbers.

NO roles are precast! All are welcome.
